At The End Of The Rainbow

emerald-cityWe just passed another St. Patrick’s Day. Perhaps many of us didn’t even notice the holiday come and go if we didn’t have little ones to remind us. As odd as it seems, the holiday may be applied to the gospel in a round-about way.

We have all heard the legend that a pot of gold rests at the end of the rainbow. Kids dream of chasing down the rainbow and finding its evasive end where riches are aplenty and mythical figures abound. Well, is there something at the end of the rainbow?

Revelations 4:  And immediately I was in the spirit: and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne.

And he that sat was to look upon like a jasper and a sardine stone: and there was a rainbow round about the throne, in sight like unto an emerald.

All throughout the Bible we see the lucky number seven. The different colors of the rainbow in Revelations represent the seven spirits of God that are mentioned over and over again in the book. The Menorah with its seven lamps represent the same. While the seven spirits of God hold a great deal of importance to us as individuals, I wanted to touch on some other things in this post that have to do with the number seven.

Each week has seven days, with the appropriate day for the Sabbath, or the day of rest, being at the end of the week. Every seven years marks what is called a Shemitah (or shmita) for Israel, in which debts are forgiven, and the land is to be given a rest from farming. It is a Sabbath year.

At the end of seven cycles of seven years, we have what is called a Year of Jubilee. During the Year of Jubilee slaves and prisoners were to be freed, debts would be forgiven, and the mercies of God were often manifest. As many of us know, 2015 is one of those special years where the Shemitah coincides with a Year of Jubilee.

Johnathan Kahn wrote extensively on the subject, and predicts dire consequences for the world, and America in particular this Shemitah year. Check out his books to find some fascinating events that took place the last two Shemitah years. It seems that Shemitah years often marked judgement and wrath, or great blessings depending upon the hearts of the people.

These things have been written about by many people, and can be found in many places, but I wanted to mention something else that may be coinciding with the Shemitah and Jubilee at this time.

Every seven days we find a day of rest, and every seven years we find a year of rest, well what about the approaching seventh millennium? All things come in cycles, and all of these miniature days of rest point towards the great millennial day. What if this year is not only a Jubilee and a Shemitah year, but also the culmination of the 6,000 years preceding the great day of rest for the earth?

Let us look at the symbolism of the Jubilee, and see how it applies to the seventh millennium.

One meaning of the word Jubilee is “trumpet sound.” So it could just as easily be said this is a year of trumpets sounding. The Jubilee began on the Day of Atonement with a blast of trumpets. We all know that the earth’s day of rest will be preceded by the blast of trumpets, signifying different events that will take place.

During the year of Jubilee all Israelites who had sold themselves into slavery were set free. We have been promised that at some point we will be lead out of bondage and finally escape Babylon, to enter the city of rest, the city of Zion, if we so choose.

We see some interesting instruction from the Lord to give the land back to its original owners during Jubilee, even if it had been sold. Beautiful! This is symbolic of the promises being fulfilled that God gave the Israelites so long ago concerning their inheritance in the land of promise. Are these lands soon to be given to the rightful heirs?

During the year of Jubilee, families were to gather together and congregate, celebrating the Sabbath year together. This signifies the gathering of the great family of Israel that will happen in the beginning of the seventh millennium.

All the land was to rest, and people were to live off of what had been sown during the previous years. The great Jubilee of the earth signifies a day of rest for the earth, where she will be raised to a higher sphere, and also an accounting or judgment for the people of the earth, who will be rewarded according to what they have sown during their probationary stay.

If anything belonged to the people of God during the six thousand years, it will once again be bestowed upon them in the seventh. It is also called the “restitution of all things.” We will see the powers of God returned in fullness.  Translation will begin to occur again. Enoch was the “seventh from Adam.” Coincidence? Here are some notable things that are said to have happened during different years of Jubilee in the past.

  • The Exodus from Egypt
  • Dedication of Solomon’s Temple
  • Decree to Rebuild Jerusalem
  • Death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ

Can you feel it in the air? Volumes could be written (in fact they have been) on the signs that are taking place in the heavens and on the earth. We are symbolically approaching the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. The Lord would have us enter His rest, and this can only be done on an individual basis. He will guide us in the process if we will yield our hearts to Him. He is the Lord of the Sabbath.

  1. “the culmination of the 6,000 years preceding the great day of rest for the earth?”

Sort of. There are at least 7 years to go before that day. Many, many great destructions, lasting 7 years with increasing intensity, must be poured out before the return of Christ.

During this period, we will see much more plain fulfillment of exactly what you describe. For example, being redeemed not only spiritually but temporally:

28 Whose arrows are sharp, and all their bows bent, their horses’ hoofs shall be counted like flint, and their wheels like a whirlwind:

29 Their roaring shall be like a lion, they shall roar like young lions: yea, they shall roar, and lay hold of the prey, and shall carry it away safe, and none shall deliver it. (Isaiah 5)

24 ¶Shall the prey be taken from the mighty, or the lawful captive delivered?

25 But thus saith the Lord, Even the captives of the mighty shall be taken away, and the prey of the terrible shall be delivered: for I will contend with him that contendeth with thee, and I will save thy children.

26 And I will feed them that oppress thee with their own flesh; and they shall be drunken with their own blood, as with sweet wine: and all flesh shall know that I the Lord am thy Saviour and thy Redeemer, the mighty One of Jacob. (Isaiah 49)

Part of the destruction involves terrible, relentless war and occupation across the entire globe. As the intensity increases, people will either move towards God or away from him. As the former become prepared, there will be groups small and large who are gathered to many locations by the Lord for safety. But even these will eventually be challenged by the atrocious judgment upon the earth. Finally, in the end, the believers will be saved, even as by fire.

    1. I agree with you that those things will happen. Will they happen before the seventh thousand years begin? That is the question. It seems that justice and restitution will be doled out right at the beginning of the millenium.
Even joseph smith in doctrine and covenants talked about the judgements and destruction that would happen after the seventh thousand years began. I am too lazy to look it up but you can if you would like.
It wasn’t until the year of jubilee that families returned, slaves were freed, and the land rested. At the beginning of the seventh thousand years we can expect the same on a magnificent scale.

  2. My understanding is that millenium will begin when the first of Gods servants are translated and enter the Lords rest. This will mark the beginning. Then more and more will gather and enter the same rest. While chaos reigns during the cleansing, some will already be in a city of Enoch type state. The trumpet blasts at the beginning of the year of jubilee are reminiscent of the story of the walls of Jericho tumbling down. It all points to the fall of babylon at the opening of the seventh thousand years

  3. D&C: 77

V.12 “Q. What are we to understand by the sounding of the trumpets, mentioned in the 8th chapter of Revelation?

    A. We are to understand that as God made the world in six days, and on the seventh day he finished his work, and sanctified it, and also formed man out of the dust of the earth, even so, in the beginning of the seventh thousand years will the Lord God sanctify the earth, and complete the salvation of man, and judge all things, and shall redeem all things, except that which he hath not put into his power, when he shall have sealed all things, unto the end of all things; and the sounding of the trumpets of the seven angels are the preparing and finishing of his work, in the beginning of the seventh thousand years—the preparing of the way before the time of his coming.

13 Q. When are the things to be accomplished, which are written in the 9th chapter of Revelation?

    A. They are to be accomplished after the opening of the seventh seal, before the coming of Christ.”

What has been helpful for me to understand is that there is an overlap between the two Seals. The 6th and 7th Seals are open at the same time.

I believe we are in that overlap period right now. We are seeing the prophecies fulfilled from both the end of the 6th Seal and beginning of the 7th Seal today. Right now.

Thus Denver’s counsel that we don’t necessarily know precisely when one period ends and another begins. It’s extremely rare but it is possible:

“There is no neat division allowing anyone to say with certainty when God believes one age ends and another has begun. God may have one age begin before another ends for His reasons. Very rarely does man see this.”

So I think both Rob & Minority are right. There’s much 6th Seal destruction left to unfold but there’s already been fulfillment of 7th Seal prophecy before our very eyes.

What an exciting time to be alive!

  4. Val Brinkerhoff, an incredibly well studied brother relates in his book, “Seven Heavenly Witnesses”, that these happenings with the moon and sun (warning/judgements). Rosh Hashanah this year begins Jacob’s trial or 3.5 years of tribulation and then after that 3.5 years of judgement ending 7 years of Jacob’s tribulation.

This Rosh Hashanah also is the end of the Shemittah year and the beginning of Jubilee year. Time to rely on the Lord. We have been in the 1/2 hour of silence mentioned in Revelations. Look to the heavens for signs and wonders. It is interesting that a talk by Cleon Skousen and Truman Madsen pegged the year 2000 with the gregorian calender pretty close to making up for the errors in the calender as the beginning of the 1/2 hour of silence, as being in the Lord’s time of 22 1/2 years. At the end of every Shemittah years, there has has been many signs and mostly givebacks by the people. I expect this autumn to be interesting to say the least. God bless..

  5. Hi, in a recent Snuffer post mention is made of comments made by W. Woodruff, P. Pratt, and J. Taylor about the revisions to church history and Young’s becoming president of the church. Does anyone know the references to that statement or how I could contact Snuffer to ask for the references? There is no comment section on his new website. Any info will be appreciated. Thanks.
    Ruth

    1. Great question I don’t know. I wouldn’t mind reading those myself. If someone has those quotes maybe they could paste them in a comment or something…

    2. Hi Ruth,

Because you asked publically as well as privately, I’ll share my response here:

It’s probably in footnote 7, a book I don’t have – Richard S. Van Wagoner, Sidney Rigdon: A Portrait of Religious Excess, Signature Books (Salt Lake City, 1994), p. 322.

The journal entries of Charles Wesley Wandell are probably contained in that reference – “I notice the interpolations because having been employed in the Historian’s office at Nauvoo by Doctor Richards, and employed, too, in 1845, in compiling this very autobiography, I know that after Joseph’s death his memoir was ‘doctored’ to suit the new order of things, and this, too, by the direct order of Brigham Young to Doctor Richards and systematically by Richards.”

Source: The Making of a Mormon Myth – Dialogue, Vol. 28, No. 4, Winter 1995 – Wandell was a church historian after Joseph’s death but disliked what was going on. He was rebaptized in the reformation in California and then went on a mission to Australia. On returning he was still in the Church for many years until he began to actively teach against Brigham Young. Later joined the RLDS church.

Here are a few links that provide additional background about some disagreements between Brigham, Parley and President Taylor:

Parley P. Pratt in Winter Quarters and the Trail West – Details of why Brigham was unhappy with Parley.

http://signaturebookslibrary.org/?p=11063 – Good background on the politics behind the reorganization.

      Hope this helps,
