The Solution to the Guide and Standard Conflict

The guide and standard conflict has been solved.

1. I shall not yield on the adoption of The Rock of Jesus Christ.
2. I shall and do dispute the adoption of any other guide and standard document.
3. You have no power to exclude me from the body of covenant participants.
4. If the people abide the Lord’s requirement that the guide and standard be adopted by mutual agreement, then The Rock of Jesus Christ shall be adopted.

If any choose to dispute the adoption of The Rock of Jesus Christ: A Statement of Our Principles as the guide and standard, then we will wait until such disputations cease.

The guide and standard test is simple: do you indeed desire to be the Lord’s people? Then accept and do as he has required.

This makes it possible to fulfill the Lord’s requirement in righteousness.

  1. I don’t know. This method of not-so-subtle coercion feels wrong. But that’s just me. Maybe I just haven’t been persuaded quite effectively.

  2. It was solved awhile ago I thought. It seems to me that the standard for mutual agreement would include a willingness to yield . . . in fact that is the only way a standard could be reached. This statement shows no such spirit and thus for me, it’s easy to reject.

    1. Jared is trying to have his cake and eat it too. He first accepted the covenant, then claimed that he lied when he accepted it, then publicly on his blog denounced the covenant telling us we should consider him not a part of the covenant, now he wants to hold the process hostage until every single person relents to his submission. If this isn’t the epitome of a “lofty branch”, I don’t know what is. As the A&C states, however, until we have a growing number and enough covenant participants, that the Lord pruning out the lofty branches won’t cripple the tree, this kind of strongman behavior will likely go on. All we can do is pray for softened hearts and spread the word and gather more covenant participants. When there are enough that the Lord’s pruning won’t hurt the group as a whole, then the pruning will commence.

      1. By the way Jared, I dissent from your proposal because of your coercive nature and your strongman tactics. So by your own understanding of mutual agreement, you don’t have a solution.

The words from the Lots proposal are the Lord’s words, they have been divinely inspired, the Lotsters witnessed the Lord’s hand in their dealings, and among those who have voted, it has gained the highest percentage of acceptance of all the proposals.

  3. Very strange. It seems that your “Rock of Jesus Christ” isn’t a Guide and Standard at all. In other words you don’t want a Guide and Standard and so you take this position and refuse to budge. Why should anyone care? If you don’t want to be part of those that accept a Guide and Standard, that is your free choice.

  4. I believe Jared Livesy is animated by lying spirits. I believe he needs to repent or depart for what he has done to all of us.

I agree with this post from another site:

Here’s another way it ends: The body simply recognizes that you are a wolf in sheep’s clothing, deceived and deceiving, attempting to establish false ideas by force, stubbornness, and arrogance. And having recognized this, they simply choose to ignore you.

You can continue to breathe out threatenings and insist that not only are you a covenant holder, but you have the right to compel the behavior of every other covenant holder. But nobody has to believe you. Or even listen to any further repetition of your tired arguments. Nobody needs to respond to you at all. In the end, you may have power to disrupt, deceive, and destroy, but only as long as people give you the attention you so desperately crave. You you do not have power to compel others’ behavior.

“My way or the highway” has no place among Christ’s followers. It is not taught in the sermon you claim to believe. It’s astonishing that you still think your misguided tactic has any chance of succeeding. And it is an offense to all those who are, in good faith, trying to compromise, work together, understand one another, and seek unity.

So yeah, there are ways this ends that do not involve you usurping the entire movement as a dictator.

And don’t bother telling us we would disobey or offend God by ignoring you. At this point I believe it offends God that we keep paying any attention to you at all. You’ve made your intentions increasingly clear, and though patience and tolerance are virtues, righteousness trumps virtue in a straight fight every day of the week.”

    1. And charity suffereth long, and is kind, and envieth not, and is not puffed up, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil, and rejoiceth not in iniquity but rejoiceth in the truth, beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.

It is supremely sad to watch those who are purportedly seeking to come unto Christ in the flesh (the “Remnant”) fly to pieces, like glass, when a trial that requires digging deeper to obtain a greater fullness of the pure love of Christ presents itself. Why cast out Log/Jared? Why cast out someone like Rob Smith? Might their words or actions be a trial of faith that will actually enable the glorious discovery and eternal certainty we are seeking? Might they be an opportunity to show and gain pure love? And what if their words are actually correct? Sometimes the truth is hard to hear. Let’s not forget that no power or influence can or ought to be maintained by virtue of the priesthood, only by persuasion, by long-suffering, by gentleness and meekness, and by love unfeigned. Otherwise, it’s “amen” to one’s priesthood or association with heaven.

  5. It is appalling to me that Latter Day Saints overwhelmingly support a man who is actively doing his best to bring an end to these Latter Days.
